Millie Cesardo '79

I was very sad to hear about Millie, only days ago.  I happened to get my hands on a 1979 yearbook, and I exulted to some friends about having found the name of the person who had been so nice to me in class.  When I mentioned the name, my friends told me...

When I was a junior, I took a class heavily populated by seniors, daunting territory in the days of the High School hierarchy.  Millie sat next to me, right up front, right in front of Ms.Heredia.  We made a little habit of having a small chat before class, about whatever was going on that day.  I loved those chats, because she always treated me with great kindness and gentleness, and I could see she was the kind of person to extend that treatment to all others because it came from the heart.  That's just who she was.  Twenty long years after, I couldn't remember the name, but I still remember how she treated others, and I was grateful for the little kindnesses she showed me.

I believe Millie still exists somewhere, and I hope she doesn't mind this humble note left on her doorstep.  Thanks, Millie.  I'm sorry you had to graduate so soon, but I'm sure you got an A.

I remember meeting Millie through my good friend Mary Pettita. She always seems so much more mature, you were one of the "cool kids" in class. I really bonded with her one summer days, when the five of us decided to drive to Napa for a day, and the car broke down on the way there. While we sat under the warm sun waiting for the tow truck, she talk about how to deal with people that are jerks. "said something smart and walk away" I still use your advise from time to time.

RIP Millie
