Kenny Andres, '81 |
| I believe its been nearly two and a half years since I received a call
that Kenny passed on. I still have many stories in the back of my
head. Many of them funny and many of them ordinary. Although
there was nothing ordinary about mister Andres...When he entered the room...he
had a presence that screamed "HELLO"! He was a key part in my teen
years as was Lise, and Drew. The three of them understood my mom
better than I did during those days. Kenny and I shared many things
in common. When I find
"I Love Lucy" memorabilia, I still want to turn around and say "Hey look Kenny!" I remember the day I got the call from Lise. I did everything in my power to make sure I was on a plane within a matter of days. We shared nice re-aquaintances at a local breakfast place once his funeral was over. It was Lise, Mary, my friends Maryann and Susan and Lise's old friend Linda. It really hit me on the flight home. I looked out the window and literally cried most of the way home. I remember the flight attendant asking me if I was okay. I replied,"yes, I just had to say good-bye to a very dear friend". ~ Christina Bonilla ~

| I know most of you probably remember Kenny as a big spoiled twit in
high school (which he was at the time), but he grew into quite a cool adult
and dearly beloved friend. He truly became part of my family.
He was the daughter I never turned into!
Unfortunately, I was the one that found him dead after trying to get hold of him for a weekend. I have a lot of regrets, but the biggest was not attending the memorial. Too much MAJOR upheaval in my life at the time (his death wasn't the only thing), but I will always remember a truly non-judgmental friend with love forever. I think when you can say that about someone after they're gone, that, to me is TRUE friendship. I miss him very much. ~ Drew F. Bartlow ~

our house he was known as

| I met Kenny at Jennie Nigh's house. He was a friend of her younger
sister Amy. I remember him as this pudgy faced, potato chip-eating, soda
junky who wore Angel Flights and a Members Only jacket. He would follow
us around, thinking we were so cool, smoking cigarettes and yelling to
boys out the window. Mind you, this was before Kenny came out, so he would
get these puppy-dog crushes on us all. It was pretty cute.
Kenny and I eventually lived only 3 blocks from each other. He would come over to my house almost daily. We would get stoned out of our minds, watch HBO or listen to Pat Benatar, eat Doritoes and drink Grape Fanta. I remember one day my sister asked Kenny if he wanted to go to
the store with her. She needed to pick up sheer panty hose. When they got
to the store, Kenny launched off on the beneifits of sheer toe, control
top, Opague, you name it. Megan came back, looked at me and said, "What's
up with him? How come he knows so much about hose??" I started laughing
so hard, I couldn't tell her. Luckily she figured it out when she walked
in my room and found Kenny and a certain other member of this list dressed
in my bras (with socks stuffed in them) and skirts. The look on her face
as she walked in
And I would be remiss in my duties if I didn't mention that Kenny made a great Lucy!! He dressed up like her for Halloween when we worked together at The Haven. Phil Ebinger walked in, recognized me and said hello. Then Kenny walked up, with his black dress with white cuffs, lipstick slightly applied above and below his lip lines, red wig..... I looked at Phil and said, "And you remember Kenny Andres, don't you??" Man, if I had a camera!!!! Leave it to Kenny...... But of course my all time fondest memory of Kenny was the night that
he, I and an ex of mine took shrooms and watched "Wizard of Oz". Just as
the movie turned to color, the drugs kicked in and Kenny and David decided
they would see just how hard they could make me laugh before I either barfed
or peed on myself!! Ahhh those were the days...... I'd give anything to
be holding in the bile, or eating the Doritoes, or watching him jump up
and down in order to get into his skin tight white button fly levis. To
watch him imitate
