Making
Your Reunion Happen
|
Is My Year Having A Reunion?
If you join us, you can hear all about it, in real time. You can even participate in making decisions about the reunion. I recommend this as the best option.By joining, you will be in on things
To join us, simply go to the Class Years page, click on your year, and fill out the "include me in the online groups" form.
It's all free, and will always be
What If I Just Want To Wait Around?
You can, but it's not a lot of fun. You can add yourself to my email database and get an email notification if something happens. Or you ccould check your class year's web page on this site every so often. But you won't get any daily interaction with your old friends, or have access to the authenticated members-only areas of the site.
You can register, and wait to hear
It's also not that safe, because some people register, but forget to update me when their old mailboxes die. Maybe they switch ISPs, or change jobs, or move from hotmail to yahoo. And so, when I go to notify them, the email bounces back as a "dead address".
It's in your best interests to keep your email address updated with W.H.O.A.
This "wait around" option is for those who want to be notified, but want no contact with their old friends in the meantime.
To wait around, simply go to the Class Years page, choose your year, choose "Reunion Info". There's an "add me to the database" signup form there.
But the options get even better!
What If I Want To Spread The Word?
Excellent! You never know what good will come from it. The biggest thing you can do for your friends is to rope other people into the system. Tell them to come to http://www.dreamworld.org/wash and sign up. Who knows, some old friend of theirs might be hoping to see them come through the door.Thank you
What If I Want To Take Charge?
That's the Eagle spirit! If you want to take charge, then you can totally use this system to get everything you need.Read on!
The Tools Available To You
It's very easy to work with me to put all the stuff below to work for you.A web site You can replace the "No reunion is planned" page with one that lists the information about your reunion - when, where, who's coming, etc.
Publicity A flood of people come to this web site looking for information about Washington every day. The ones looking for a reunion for their year will see...whaddayaknow! Your announcement.
An online discussion group These things are unbelievably useful. I know, an online group doesn't sound that powerful - but it is. They're what have made many get-togethers possible. For the technically savvy, they are known as discussion mailing lists aka listserves aka reflectors. They allow you to talk to everyone in your class all at once. Just like a virtual pizza party at Giorgio's with hundreds of people following along, and contributing, etc.
An alumni database This web site has been here since the previous century. I have found thousands of people from Washington. I probably have already have at least a dozen, if not several dozen, of your classmates.
Okay, how much does all this cost?
Nothing.What? Nothing? You crazy, boy
I know.By using the proven, existing, vast resources here you can make it all come together
Step By Step
So now that you have an overview of everything, it's time to take concrete steps.Blah, blah, blah. Tell me, what do I do?
Okay, here is the straight dope, in concrete steps.
Join the online discussion group for your year. Go to the Class Years page, choose your year. You will see a "Find your year, find your friends" page. There's a signup form there. If you're already a member of Eagles or of your wash## list, you don't have to do this again.
Get Help
Once you are in the online group for your year, send an email into the online group for your year that you need members for a committee. Don't worry if few people respond. Many are busy with kids, etc. Since you are taking the lead, eventually others will come.Start Having Meetings
Once you have a crew of regulars, that's your committee. Have in-person meetings every so often to plan everything, decide what you'll do with extra money / money shortages. Have someone keep minutes, or you'll argue later about what you agreed on.Elect A Reunion Contact
This is the person who will be the dreamworld contact. They will send me stuff to put on your web site, maybe meet with me to get stuff to get scanned like class pictures, etc.Get The Keys To The Kingdom
The Reunion Contact gets 'List Master' status. They will have the power to add new members to your year's online group by sending a passworded command to the robot.Bring In More Classmates
Everyone in your committee pitches in with this one. They pursue leads and add them to your year's online group. Then you tell everyone in the online group to pitch in, too. If you keep up the nagging, and don't give up, two people will find four others. The four will find sixteen, and so on...and so on...and so on...Publish Your Plans
As you make decisions, select where the reunion will be, choose the cost, and so on, you can put this up on your year's web site. That way, people can check the site to see the latest. Also, new people who stumble into the web site will see something is going on, and will sign up. And they might bring in two others with them.Show Party Pictures On This Site
After the reunion, you can put up your party pictures on your year's web site. It will be protected by a password, so that strangers are prevented from ogling your pictures.Yes, a reunion is a concentrated effort. But it's a lot of fun, too. And you will get to go through an adventure with old friends you thought you'd lost. It will be one of those things where it seems like a lot while you're in it, but will be immensely rewarding as well.
I hope all this has shown that you can get a lot out of this system. A lot of powerful things are already in place to make your reunion happen.
This system has a lot of superpowers that help make reunions happen
