Because this was the first-ever fan-based Relativity page on the web. I think it came online before ABC's page, but I'm not sure. It did come online well before the show was even announced to the public, yippeeee, so do I get a cookie?. :)
I found out about Relativity from the My So-Called Life mailing list.
Two reasons. First, it is produced by the same team of executive producers that brought us our beloved defunct TV show, My So-Called Life (MSCL) Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz. Second, it stars Devon Gummersall, a graduate from MSCL. The music is also by the same person who scored MSCL. The music for the show is also scored by another MSCL alumnus, "Snuffy" Walden.
The premiere was at a special time, Tuesday, 9/24 10 pm, where NYPD Blue would ordinarily be. This is rumored to be (thanks, Andi Wolf Dolphin!) after Spin City, Michael J Fox's new show, then move to its regular Saturday spot..
According to the ABC Relativity home page, it airs on Saturdays, 10 P.M., 9 central. They repeated last Saturday's (9/28) episode tonight (10/1). I don't know if they intend to keep repeating Saturday's episodes on Tuesdays, but at least tonight it was your chance to tape the show if you missed it on Saturday.
Given ABC's track record of killing its finest dramas because they're
not stupid enough for a mass audience, I certainly hope that Relativity
turns out to be a great show, moves to a better time slot, and gets lots
of promotion and support from ABC. We are very closely watching this show,
given the exceptional track record of the creators of thirtysomething
and the much-mourned and dastardly-murdered My So-Called Life.
What is IRC?
IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a way to "chat" live online with
other people on the internet. It's just like sitting around a table and
talking, except you type instead of speak, and read instead
of listen.
Yes! We will follow the tradition of MSCL and meet at skypoint.dal.net. This server can handle a huge number of channels, and so there is usually little or no hassles as you try to enter IRC.
If you don't know much about IRC, check out the home page of the IRC provider whose servers we use. Cruise the page for DALNet and get some good technical information.
We will meet in channel #Relativity. I announced a BIG gala IRC chat to be held right after the Relativity Premiere on Tuesday, 9/24/96, and it went off very well, with many people coming.
It's been pointed out that making the IRC chat officially at 11 PM, right after each show, would be too late for many people. So, it's been proposed that we make it for Sundays, 4 PM Pacific time, 7 PM Eastern time. If you have different ideas about this, I really encourage you to sign on to the list, or come to an IRC chat, and make a proposal for a different weekday and/or time.
Check out these web sites with IRC FAQs (Frequently-Asked Questions). FYI, mIRC is a very good windows IRC program. dal.net houses the server that we all connect to in order to chat. specifically, we use the server skypoint.dal.net.
If you are a Windows user, I highly recommend Stroud's Consummate Winsock Applications web site as a good place to look for, read up on, and download IRC software.
Yes! It is expected to be instantly populated with many friends from the vibrant preexisting My So-Called Life culture, which has a (humility alert!) fun home page with articles, stories of listie get-togethers, listie pictures, and so on, which you really should check out, hint, hint. : )
Please be patient, since the Relativity
administrative stuff is being done by hand right now, by someone (valiant
listmeister Byron Go) who does it just to be nice and is not being paid
for it, and who has no automated listserv. Send the request to join the
list to owner-relativity-l@muzic.com
You will get instructions on how to post to the list.
