"A Clinical
Application of Bowen Family Systems Theory"
Abstract
This clinical paper describes the eight basic concepts of
Bowen family systems theory. These concepts are: Nuclear Family Emotional System,
Differentiation of Self, Relationship Triangles, Family Projection Process,
Multigenerational Transmission Process, Sibling Position, Emotional Cutoff, and Societal
Emotional Process. It also provides a brief description of the author's field placement
program, the Dual Recovery Intensive Outpatient Services (IOS) Program, for chemically
dependent adults with mental health diagnoses. In addition, it describes how family
systems theory has been applied to the author's field practice, using a client from the
author's caseload as a case example. This client was diagnosed with cannabis dependence
and schizophrenia, and received individual therapy with the author while he was in Phase I
of the IOS program. click here for article:

Currently under way:
A call for volunteer(s) to
act as website manager/editor: I
am seeking someone who knows Bowen theory (optional) and is interested in managing this
website. This would entail adding articles, images, bulletins and archival material,
suggesting new features and ways to present information. This would be a monthly
task requiring minimal time for someone who knows how to do it. It is not one of my
skill areas so takes me way too long for the simplest changes. Email syrfc@aol.com to get more info or sign on as webmaster!
