We hope that you will take some time to learn about the  various programs that are run through the SCEC!

Community Art Center

An open studio available to children, adults and seniors

Experience with visual arts such as drawing, painting, print making and sculpting

After school programs for children and teens

Trips to museums, galleries, and other cultural events

Guest speakers and visiting artists

Opportunities for scholarships to local art colleges

On site gallery to view and purchase art work of local residents

Opportunities to exhibit art work professionally in local university and private galleries

Community Organizing Group

Monthly meetings to discuss issues of concern such as abandoned housing and crime and safety

Educational opportunities such as computer instruction

Opportunities for leadership development

Guest speakers on subjects such as pollution and its impact on local residents

Open to adults and seniors in the Kingsessing area

Computer Learning

Offers teenagers an opportunity to learn about computers and other transferable employment skills

Formal classroom setting: one for high school juniors and one for high school seniors

Experience in using IBM computers, DOS and Windows systems

Assistance in resume writing and interview skills

Internship or job placement

Family School

Weekly parenting skills program held on Friday mornings for parents and caretakers with children under the age of 5

Structured play activities for children

Organized group discussions for parents and caretakers

Guest speakers on topics such as lead poisoning and the development needs of young children

Field Trips

Nutrition Program

Congregate meal program: hot and nutritious meals served to men, women and children (September through June)

Emergency food cupboard for individuals and families with a referral from another community group or agency

After School Homework Club

Structured and safe after school environment for children in grades 1 through 5

Assistance with homework provided by local residents and college students

Monthly Saturday morning trips to Villanova University

Month-long summer education, art and recreation program

Teen Enrichment Program

After school tutoring program in a structured and safe environment, for pre-teens/teens in grades 6 through 12

Structured evening study and homework club assistance Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Assistance with homework provided by local residents and college students

Mentoring program that matches local teens with both college students and community residents

Educational, recreational and cultural trips

Career counseling and visits to employers

Workshops on study skills, math enrichment, SAT Prep, college entrance exams, teamwork and conflict resolution

Senior Club and Home Visitation Program

Weekly programs featuring guest speakers and recreational outings

Bible study class on Tuesday mornings

Hot, nutritious meals served on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon

Information and referrals for home repairs

Transportation to and from local supermarkets

Individualized assistance in filing forms and scheduling medical appointments

Weekly visits and frozen meal delivery to home bound senior citizens in the Kingsessing area
