Here are some things on our "radical gay agenda" in the near and distant future...
Survey - How often do students hear verbal harassment based on sexual orientation? Do they have gay friends? Would they be uncomfortable if a friend came out to them? Find out what Oyster River students think about homosexuality and report it.

Educational Poster Campaign - Raise awareness around the school.

Teach the Teachers Day - Sponsor an after-school training session for teachers about issues facing gay and lesbian students. Put together a panel of students who want to talk about their own experience or what they have witnessed. Show a film, invite a speaker.

Drag Dance - Hold a dance and charge a reduced admission to those dressed in drag

Outreach to the Middle School - Go back to ORMS to break the silence and teach younger students that gay-bashing behavior and the use of derogatory language is offensive and wrong.

Marching with Pride - March as a group in the Boston Gay/Straight Youth Pride March or others.

Movies - Get together to watch and discuss movies with gay and lesbian themes.

Host “Day of Awareness” - Invite speakers on topics such as gay rights and the law, depiction of gays in the media, coming out, hate crimes, transgender issues, etc. Also show films and facilitate discussion on these topics.

Petition of Support - Choose a specific issue—like getting sexual orientation covered by the school’s anti-discrimination and harassment policies—and have supportive students, faculty, staff and community members sign a petition.

Bring-A-Friend Day - Bringing new people to a meeting will change a lot of people’s minds about the group and destroy stereotypes about homosexuality.

You can help add to this list or, better yet - get some of these projects off the ground. Just speak up at the next Oyster River Gay Straight Alliance meeting, Thursday afternoons after school.
