| Volunteering for the COA Volunteer Meal Delivery
is our
most important position, volunteers first drive the meal
route with a supervisor and test their skills driving the
van; they must have a good driving record and are added
to our insurance policy. People on the home delivered
meal route anticipate the arrival of the driver and both
the food and the good will they deliver, often this will
be the only person visiting their home on a given day.
The vans leave the designated center at a specified time,
usually 11AM, and the route takes about an hour to complete. Volunteers are needed who are willing to
substitute when others are ill or on vacation. Many volunteers drive their own vehicles and deliver meals on
the same schedule as the vans.
Clerical/Office Duties
are needed including phone calls to participants, data
entry, and general office work.
Meal Duties
include lunch line serving form
about 11 to 12:30 and kitchen custodial cleaning.
Activities with seniors
are social events and can be
scheduled at any time the center is open, greatly
appreciated are games and crafts, and leading an exercise
program or a dance class. Special events such as day
trips often require additional help to assist seniors.
Workshops and speakers help us meet the educational needs
as well as personal growth.
Fund Raining events
are an essential part of any nonprofit agency and require
people power prior to and on the day of the event.
Volunteers are needed for events such as a Walk-a-thon,
motorcycle rally, or a fund raising breakfast or gospel
concert. The center director would contact you prior to
the event and give a specific assignment. Coupon
Volunteer is an ongoing fund raising program occurring in
several Harps groceries as well as Dillons in Prairie
Grove. Volunteers meet at designated times and tape
coupons to the products in the grocery store, the coupons
are stamped COA, and at check-out the
clerk ask the customer if they wish to donate the coupon
to COA. This program is a major source of funds for
seniors.
