For its innovative fund
raising techniques, and for its use of volunteer
labor to construct its building on land donated
by the local school board, the Prairie Grove
Senior Activity Center received the Arkansas
Senior Center Best Practice award in 1996.
The
building sits on a wooded lot on the edge of the
Prairie Grove School grounds. It contains a large
activity/dining room, kitchen facilities, a
parlor/game room, and an office. Behind, a shaded
walking trail winds through the trees. Volunteer
students from the school help to maintain this
trail, and even rebuilt it after it was damaged
by heavy rains.
The town of Prairie Grove
is home to the Prairie Grove Battlefield State
Park -- the location of a Civil War battle -- and
hosts the Prairie Grove Clothesline Fair each
year.
Activities
We play BINGO, work jig saw puzzles, cut and stamp
coupons, visit and read
jokes. We have informative speakers, musicians,
and dances about every two months. We take people
shopping at least once a month.
